Mayor already rethinking $afeKKKlear program

Hizzonner is feeling the heat that his SafeClear initiative has generated:

Mayor Bill White said Wednesday he may consider free towing for people who can't afford it under the city's new policy to remove disabled vehicles from the freeways. The mayor's comments were in response to growing criticism of the Safe Clear program, which requires disabled vehicles on Houston freeways, including the shoulders, to be towed. A $75 fee is charged for the first five miles, and if the fee is not paid the vehicle may be impounded and eventually sold. White gave no details on when or if the city would implement free towing, which some council members also support for the poor.

Let me get this straight. The mayor institutes an anticompetitive, revenue-grabbing scheme that effectively bypasses the free market and reduces individual liberty. People don't like it. So his answer is to make it into another entitlement? Yikes!
